Friday 6/26 - Gregg Rolie!

Tomorrow at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is the Gregg Rolie Band. Gregg was the original lead singer/Hammond organist for Santana (for the first two albums, i think) and a founding member of Journey. My son and I saw him last year (at the SCBB) and he absolutely killed. We stayed for both shows. Great Band, cool spot on the beach, and it's FREE! Can't lose situation. Other cool acts coming up too. Don't miss the Smithereens the following Friday.

Has the most incredible voice I have ever heard. I had the pleasure of seeing her a few weeks ago. I would consider her voice the 8th wonder of the world. If I was into women I would've stalked her. Purely amazing.

Just in case anyone cares

I'm playing my first show in SF tonight from 9:30-close at Fiddler's Green (1333 Columbus Ave, San Francisco). No cover, but I hear good things about the place. I'm hoping to hit them up for a regular gig because I've got a few fans in the city and would like to play that side of the bridge more often!

Hey BAGS forum dudes (and dudettes if any there are):

I am working on putting together a low key BBQ/winesnort party post HGF, on Sunday Aug. 16th after the show closes. I live in Petaluma, which is 15 miles south of HGF on Hwy 101. So, anyone heading back to the Bay Area from Healdsburg goes right by.

So far, I have luthier Kathy Wingert and her entourage involved, and have invites out to my pals Dorian Michaels (playing luthier mini concerts) and Stevie Coyle (leading a workshop). This could be an opportunity for this new BAGS community to actually meet and hang. I can't promise whether guitars will come out of cases after 3 days of acousti-overload, but I would guess with that much guitosterone, it is pretty likely.

Would anyone be interested in joining if it falls together? Anyone thinking of attending HGF on Sunday and possibly interested in an invitation would be welcome. I am trying to gauge interest at this point. So, drop a note if...

CBA Grass Valley Festival

Any bluegrass junkies going to be at the Grass Valley festival June 18th to the 21st? We usually spend most of the week there with an occasional trip home (we live about 45 minutes away). Plenty of good acts on stage and lots of jamming going on around the campground. Great fun all the way around. Hope to see some of you there.

The Sun Kings

I went and saw the Sun Kings (Beatles cover band) and Aja Vu (Steely Dan cover band) last night at the Fox Theater. My daughter is really into the lads from Liverpool. I must say, both bands were quite good. Aja Vu was really tight, and the Sun Kings rocked! Although the band members do not look anything like Paul, John, Ringo and George, they did use the same guitars and basses. I did even see a few Vox amps, although I think a couple weren't powered-up, but placed on the stage as props. The two guitarists were playing through Fenders.

My band, Replay, is making one of our two annual appearances at the San Rafael Farmers Market night tomorrow night. Details: May 8, 6-9pm, at the stage at 4th Street and Cijos Street in downtown San Rafael. We have been regulars at the SRFM for 6 years. Every year some Marin celeb walks by. George Lucas hung out last year and listened. Al Stewart once wandered by when we fortunately were not playing Year of the Cat. I live in fear that Carlos will wander by during Smooth......

Did anyone else happen to catch this show at the Lucille Stern Theater in Palo Alto? I thought it was excellent . . very well done. The guitarists were quite good . . the singing was great. I'd definitely see it again if it comes around.
