Martin: Bridge Pins & End Pins

I've never had to replace any of my acoustics' bridge pins or end pins. However, I did recently pick-up a pre-war 0-17 which is missing it's end
pin. In looking for a replacement, the first thing I noticed is that it was darn near impossible to find someone selling just an end pin. Having to purchase
an entire bridge pin set to get the endpin, I then noticed that there were a number of different materials (plastic, wood, bone, ivory). It got me thinking .
. . I keep hearing about bone saddles and bone nuts, and noticed there were a few bridge pins made of bone. The pins on my Martin are made of black plastic.
I wonder how a set of bone pins will effect the sound. (Of course, I'll save the originals).

I'm trying to stimulate some lively posts here. Back in the 50's, Fender was just one of dozens of new companies trying to find a market in the
fledgling world of electric music. There were lots of amp companies, many using the same, or similar, circuitry. Most failed or limped along as the industry
became more robust. As we all know, Fender emerged as the big dog in the US, and those vintage Fenders have become collectable and carry high price tags.
However, there are also many amps from the 50's by forgotten companies that probably sound just as good as their Fender counterparts. Oh, and they are so
much cheaper to buy now, but don't have the "brand cache".

So, let's see what kind of vintage amps we all have from this "oddball and rarity" perspective.

I'll start. I have an early 50's Alamo model 6A. This is built on the same circuitry as the comparable Fender Bassman. It has four inputs with two

This post was submitted at the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum (UMGF), and is something that I thought should be passed along here. I was a recent victim of a
high-dollar vintage instrument being returned to the dealer which was damaged during shipment. Although it was insured for the full purchase price,
there's no guarantee that FedEx's inspectors (who work for FedEx) will find in my favor. Only time will tell. In the mean time, take note:

Shipping valuable instruments--the insurer's perspective:
Those of us who insure with Heritage got an email newsletter from them
this week. Here's advice they had about shipping musical instruments. They want to cut claims, but we want to avoid having to make them ourselves and avoid
having our premiums go up to pay others' claims, so I think that the company's and our interests line up pretty well. Sorry for the spacing and
