Hey Mike,

Hi Guyute,
Are you going from slotted plastic to unslotted bone, or are the bone pins slotted? If they are slotted and just off by a few thousands, I would just roll the pins in 320 or 400 grit sandpaper (3M from home depot), and if you have it available, polish with the highest grit you can find. 800 or 1500. You can also ream out the pin holes, but as I remember, you don't have a reamer and this of course alters your guitar for good. Birdge Pins come in different sizes, so you may want to consider just picking up the right size for your specific Martin. -See below http://www.thestringman.com/accessories/datasheets/bridgepinchart.htm If you look around, you can find an exact replacement for your guitar that should require no alterations to the pins or the guitar. If your trying to install unslotted pins, sometimes you have to make an alteration to the guitar (a string notch) in order to accept the string. This should be done by a luthier.I hope this helps... |

They're slotted pins. I'll just drop by Ace Hardware since I apparently need to sand out the tuner holes too
Thanks Mike! |

No problem. You might want to check on a reamer for those tuner holes while your there. That's a much better option than the sandpaper. Good luck!

They didn't have a reamer....I did find another option, though...round file that will go into a drill chuck. Not ready to tackle that.
For future reference, sanding bridge pins by hand? SUCKS. |

Update...I just found a great new use for the "Pedi-Paws" electric nail trimmer. Couldn't get my dog to go for it for trimming his claws, but
damn, if that sucker doesn't make sanding down bridge pins a breeze

Hey Guyute,
That's great! So were you able to actually reduce the taper with the Ped-Paws trimmer, or does it just shorten it? |

I took the guard off, so I was able to slim them down which is exactly what the doctor ordered.
