A Must Read For Any Guitar Enthusiast!! |

I just finished this book by Allen St. John, and it was absolutely captivating! Whether or not you ever thought about building guitars, any guitar enthusiast
owes it to himself/herself to read this account of one writer's observations of luthier and picker extraordinaire Wayne Henderson, as he builds a guitar
for the famous (Eric Clapton) and not so famous. It provides a new appreciation for the workmanship that goes into building such a fine instrument. I had never
heard of Wayne Henderson before I started reading this book. Now, after doing a google search, mention of him is all over the internet, along with many vids at
youtube. Wayne's waiting list has been known to stretch out to 10 years! He doesn't accept a deposit, and he prices his guitars
much less than your typical Martin. It's bound to leave you longing for a Henderson guitar of your own . . trust me.

Being an acoustic player, I really liked this book. Tricone, I haven't ordered a Henderson, but I'm tempted.

Next up:
Practicing: A Musician's Return to Music (Vintage) I've heard a lot of good comments about this book. Although it's written by a classical guitarist, it apparently isn't limited to that genre. |

Re: Clapton's Guitar, I agree it's a good book for anyone interested in guitars and/or guitar-making, and Wayne Henderson is a great character. But
one caveat: don't expect Clapton to appear much in that book, his name is on the cover simply as a marketing tool. The book is not about Clapton's
guitar, as the cover would have you believe, it's only incidental to the story. Still, it's a pretty good read.

Yep, I loved the Henderson book and was sorry to finish it and leave that messy little shop in Rugby. There were one or two things that I found upsetting that
I will not go into. Some have not read it yet and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I'm going to loan it to some non-guitarists to see if they can
relate to it....

Read "Guitar: An American Life" by Tim Brookes | #7
|
Here's one to add to your bedside reading list. Tim Brookes' "Guitar: An American Life". Brookes entwines two stories. One is the history of
guitar in American culture (it supplanted the ukelele as the primary instrument!). The other is the story of Rick Davis building Brookes his dream guitar
after Brookes' guitar was destroyed by baggage handlers.
For those of us who love guitar and have worked with luthiers, it is a great read. Brent

Will Hodgkinson's Great Guitar Read! | #9

Here's another humorous read. The author, a non-guitarist, decides that he is going to learn the guitar with a ambitious goal: to play in front of an audience within six months!
