Hello fellow bassists! Please share with us what instrument you play. I have a 1985 Ibanez Musician MC2924. It's a rather rare bass guitar that I
purchased from Japan. I think Ibanez's now infamous Soundgear series may have been born out of this particular bass. Check out the similarities:

I've seen these basses for sale occasionally on eBay, but they do seem rare. Hey, all the better!

Very similar to my '86 RB850, but with an extra knob. I believe they advertised the Musician series as more uptown than the Roadstars. Nice bass!

Ah yes, the Roadstar Series. Very nice bass guitars. I assume the Roadstars were made in Japan as well?

You are correct!
IMHO, the Ibanez stuff that came out of Fujigen in the mid-80s was as good as the Japanese Fenders of the same time period. In additon to the aforementioned RB850, I've also got an EDB400 and an SRX500. All great basses. |

In total agreement with your statement regarding Japanese Ibanez and Fender bass guitars. How do your late model Ibanez's stack up to your RB's as far
as craftsmanship? I think craftsmanship is the most important aspect of an instrument. You have to start with a solid foundation. Electronics can always be
upgraded and tweaked.

The Indonesian EDB is pretty good, but it's such a thin neck and light body (basswood) that sometimes I'm afraid I'm going to snap it in half. :-)
The SRX is made in Korea, I think, and the wiring's crap, but the pickups ain't half bad. Musicman style. Other than that, though, I've found the necks on the more "upscale" Ibanez stuff to be pretty darn straight and the hardware decent. When you consider that you can get most of them on eBay for under $400 and that they are generally better than an MIM Fender, I'd say any of the mid-range Ibanezes would make an excellent starter or backup bass. However, for serious stage use, I'll stick with Japan. |

Great synopsis on the different Ibanez basses. I once owned a Soundgear and know exactly what you mean by a thin neck. The Musician has a much meatier neck.
